Well Guys I guess the word is out that I have a few changes coming for next year!
I will be leaving Wilson Security Racing after this year, and will be joining Walkinshaw Racing driving the Bundaberg Red Racing Commodore.
There have been a few times in my life where some big decisions had to be made and this was definitely one of them. I have been in motorsport for as long as I can remember, from Karts to Formula Ford, from Formula Renault to Porsche, from Holden to Ford and next year back to Holden. The journey has taken me across the world, and I have met some great people along the way. So a few thanks are in order, and explain why this was not an easy decision to make.
Leaving Paul Cruickshank Racing next year will be tough. Paul is a good friend, as are the guys on the PCR team. You get to see me on the track, but the whole team feels the highs and lows of the season. It’s the guys you don’t get to see that pull the long hours and late nights giving me the best car possible. My first podium in Tasmania is something I will never forget, and it was the guys that made it happen. Paul gave me his support to speak to other teams and this was not easy an easy decision for him, nor was it for me to be someplace else for 2010. Wilson Security came on board this year as our major sponsor and allowed us to progress as a team. This is a credit to John McMellan from Wilson Security. John was also instrumental in putting together our association at Bathurst with the McGrath Foundation to help raise awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer. John is passionate about the sport, and we are lucky to have a company like Wilson Security as a sponsor.
I’ll be moving to Melbourne next year with my girlfriend Laura, and in doing so leaving a lot of great friends on the Gold Coast. This was another tough part of the decision. Life on the GC has been great, but it was the friends we made that made it fun. I’ll need to find some new places to eat, a new training route for riding my Pinarello bike, and a new spot to unleash my RC Drift Car! I don’t think I’ll be a stranger to the coast though, and at least the Melbourne weather will remind me of New Zealand!
To my family and friends back in New Zealand your amazing support cannot be put into words. So simply thank you. You've always been there for me through the ups and downs.
I’d also like to thank my other sponsors Oakley, JBT Brake Systems, Tendence Watches, and Autofocus Store for their support.
Being a part of Walkinshaw Racing and the Bundaberg Red Racing Team will be exciting to say the least, and I will do my best to challenge Will and Garth for the podium spots! For now though my focus is for a strong finish with Wilson Security Racing. We are back at Phillip Island this weekend, then Perth and the Telstra 500 at Homebush. I want nothing more to give the guys a top result.
Finally to my fans, a big thanks to you. The emails, and the messages of support on Facebook have been fantastic, as well as some great words from my fellow Kiwi’s. One of the best parts about my job is being able to meet those passionate about their V8’s at the track, at sponsor days, on the street and all over. Thank you for your support, because without you I couldn’t do what I love to do. Race V8 Supercars.
Cheers Fabian
